Do you want to volunteer for a cause this coming December? Philippine Red Cross and Rescue 5 is inviting you to join Volunteer Run this coming December 4.
Rescue 5, TV 5’s Emergency Response Unit founded last February 2011. It is under the News 5 Public Service Group headed by Ms. Sherryl Yao. And it is composed of several News 5 reporters and cameraman certified in different types of rescue situation. And its team leader, Mr. Paolo Bediones lend his hand to those people whose life are in danger, like road accidents, typhoons, earthquakes, volcano eruptions and other catastrophic incidents. Their core value, “Higit sa balita, AKSYON!” and MULA AKSIDENTE SA KALSADA, HANGGANG SA BAHAY MO…AAKSYUNAN…ORA MISMO was their mission to help others in time of troubles and emergency.

TV5 news anchor and network executive Paolo Bediones took the time to support the May 9 launch of the Volunteer Run organized by the Philippine Red Cross.
The fun run will be held simultaneously in key cities and municipalities in the country on December 4, in time for the celebration of International Volunteer Day on December 5.
He attended the event in behalf of the Kapatid Network and RESCUE 5, TV5’s emergency rescue unit. He said in his speech that day:
“We support the Project 143 of the Red Cross wherein they want to have volunteers for every barangay. I encourage all of you to go through this program.”
Paolo Bediones says that TV5 news personnel are trained to rescue people in need and not just to deliver the news. “May training kami on how to give first aid and help people in accidents and fires,” he says. “Kasi, sa news coverage, madalas na nauunang dumating ang media. Hindi puedeng manonood na lang kayo and wait for an ambulance, which is why our newscast is called ‘Aksyon’, kasi uma-aksyon kami talaga para makatulong.”
“Nothing beats prevention especially in homes wherein we can have an emergency situation and we will feel helpless. Now we don’t have to feel helpless since this is a way for us to be trained.
“Anyone can be a volunteer for the Red Cross. As for the Volunteer Run on December 4, I will be running alongside Marian (Rivera, the celebrity endorser of Red Cross).”
