To recognize the unique role, service and commitment that teachers play in strengthening communities and building the nation, the Department of Education (DepEd) hosted a celebration honoring teachers, educators, professors, education officials, and other education stakeholders on October 5, 2013 at the Phil Sports Arena (formerly ULTRA). With the theme “My Teacher, My Hero,” the event is in line with the international celebration of World Teachers’ Day.
From the #ThankYouTeacher Twitter greetings, to the inspiring stories of our teachers posted every day on the DepEd Facebook wall during National Teachers’ Month, the event aims to culminate the month-long celebration with festivities to express the education agency’s sincere gratitude for teachers’ positive influences on learners across the nation.
“As prime instruments of education and molders of young minds, teachers hold a special place in society. This celebration honors the remarkable deeds of the members of the noblest profession,” said Education Secretary Br. Armin A. Luistro FSC. He adds “We are where we are because of the teachers that have touched our lives.
The occasion will be highlighted by two simultaneous events happening at the DepED Complex grounds and the Phil Sports Arena. The former will feature exhibits, cultural performances, games, beauty and wellness services, medical outreach, concessionaires, festival merchandise, and lots of freebies from our corporate partners. The party at the DepED grounds is expected to finish by 5:00 PM.
DepEd gates and registration at the Phil Sports Arena will open at 5:30 AM. Over 7,000 guests are expected to join in the celebration, so it is advised to register on time to avoid delays. To meet the minimum security requirements of the event, guests are required to present at least one valid ID.
